Abstract
The objective of COSMO is to examine the contribution and impact of temporary architectures realised with self-construction practices in the context of the search for the 'sustainability' of common goods. In order to achieve this aim, COSMO has identified four main objectives: to define a taxonomy of contemporary architectural practices related to the project theme; to identify and analyse significant case studies; to define guidelines to support public administrations and/or third sector agencies; and to create a "kit" of design and implementation tools for innovative self-construction methodologies. The COSMO project aims to gain an understanding of the processes of re-appropriation of architectural and urban space from a perspective that is characterised by a bottom-up approach. This approach is particularly relevant in contexts where urban areas are undergoing significant transformation, and where the communities that inhabit these areas are themselves engaged in practices that shape the urban environment.
In order to gain a nuanced understanding of the complex spatial realities that emerge in such contexts, COSMO will employ a combination of study methods that take into account both quantitative and qualitative aspects.

>> Conceptual study of flexible and adaptable architectural solutions for vunerable living
Research agreement between University of Brescia - Department DICATAM and "Case San Vincenzo" Association
Scientific coordinators UniBs: Barbara Angi, Barbara Badiani
Research team: Irene Peron, Alberto Soci
2023 – Today
The agreement envisages the identification, promotion and development of teaching and applied research activities of common interest between the DICATAM Department and the 'Case San Vincenzo' Association, with a focus on the issues of housing for vulnerable people through the study of housing needs and forms of living suitable for vulnerable people, the design of flexible and sustainable architectural solutions to expand the housing welfare system, and the analysis and design of shared open spaces and the points of contact between public and private space.
>> Architecture and Digital Transition. Multidisciplinary studies for the information management of combined architectural housing redevelopment
Research agreement between University of Brescia - Department DICATAM and Harpaceas Group
Scientific coordinators UniBs: Barbara Angi, Angelo Luigi Camillo Ciribini, Silvia Mastrolembo Ventura
2023 – Today
The aim of the framework agreement is to develop teaching and research projects whose scientific and disciplinary content relates to the fields of Architectural and Urban Composition (ICAR/14) and Building Production (ICAR/11) and can be articulated in the following aspects:
combined redevelopment of residential architectural buildings thanks to the design prefiguration and information modelling of alternative scenarios also through the use of virtual reality and dedicated software,
implementation of digital and informative modelling procedures of existing buildings,
methodological, concerning integrated architectural design practices in the digital environment,
the study of BIM (Building Information Modeling) procedures for the design, maintenance, management and valorisation of the national and/or European residential building heritage, whether public or private.
>> Architectures for transitional living
Research agreement between University of Brescia - Department DICATAM and Brescia Municipality
Scientific coordinators UniBs: Barbara Angi, Barbara Badiani
Research team: Alberto Soci, Luca Fogliata, Elisa Masserdotti
2020 – Today
The agreement between the University and the Municipality of Brescia establishes a relationship of mutual collaboration between the subjects in order to coordinate architectural and urban planning studies aimed at the design of versatile housing scenarios able to accommodate, for short or medium-term stays people with absent or precarious residential situations and / or who present important conditions of economic and / or social hardship.
The first settlement under study is the "Centro Corridoni" in Brescia.

AdESA is a new system for the energy, seismic and architectural redevelopment of existing buildings that allows you to operate from the outside, without relocating the inhabitants, and to drastically reduce intervention times, with costs comparable to those of an energy intervention. In order to achieve safety, resilience, comfort and sustainability, AdESA provides for the application of a second engineered skin, consisting of insulated wood panels connected to each other and to the structure, with the function of an energy coat, anti-seismic shell and layer for the architectural redevelopment of the facades, removable and recyclable at the end of life. The first application of the AdESA system is being completed at the gymnasium of the “Don Milani” primary school, Villaggio Badia, Brescia, whose construction system has been patented by the architect Gino Valle.
>> ALER
Research agreement between University of Brescia - Department DICATAM, UniBG, ALER
Scientific coordinators UniBs: Barbara Angi, Angelo Luigi Camillo Ciribini, Giovanni Plizzari
2020 – Today
The agreement provides for research and teaching activities the scientific contents refer to the field of architecture and engineering and are divided into the following aspects:
Methodological, concerning contemporary design theories;
Analytical - instrumental;
Typological, for the study of distributive, morphological, linguistic characters of architecture and the city;
Rehabilitation and/or maintenance of architectural artefacts;
Compositional, concerning the aggregative and formal logic with which the architectural organism is defined in its elements and parts and relates to its context;
Design experimentation, for the solution of specific themes relating to interventions ex novo or on the built environment;
Implementation of computer modelling procedures for buildings;
The study of BIM (Building Information Modeling) procedures for the planning, management, maintenance and valorisation of the building heritage.
In particular, research themes will be developed to flank and support ALER BCM by producing a varied series of research projects of an eminently design-oriented nature.
